Save the seals


Save the seals! Since our world is getting hotter, the ice is melting. Our precious Ringed Seals are suffering because of it. Ringed Seals love the water and spend most of their time in it, but they still need the ice to thrive. Sea Lions and Killer Whales hunt these plump little Marine Mammals all the time, making the need to escape onto land even more necessary. The shrinking ice makes finding escapable land even harder. To add even moredrama, pregnant seals have to find acceptable places on land to give birth. If there is no land to give birth on, the seal mother will die. Over 270,00 seal pups are killed for their fur every year! Stop global warming and save the seals. They already have enough trouble.


Rick Smetana says, “ …Canadian seal hunts which take over 270,00 seal pups each year.” This means that even more seals are being killed each year from global warming and seal hunts!


Greenhouse gases are the main factors in causing global warming. These molecules consist of 3 or more atoms, making them take up more space, eventually trapping heat in the atmosphere. We humans emit CO2 and Methane (among others) into our atmosphere every day, causing the heat of our planet to rise. We do this by burning Carbon-based Fossil Fuels. These Fossil Fuels are Carbon based, which means that a form of Carbon seeps into the atmosphere when we burn these Fossil Fuels. This form of Carbon is Carbon Dioxide, otherwise known as CO2.


Global Warming


Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases escaping into our atmosphere. Usually, a small amount of greenhouse gases is ok, but now that we are creating more and more greenhouse gases, they get stuck in the atmosphere and prevent heat from escaping. Greenhouse gasses consist of 3 or more atoms. More atoms means that the gas takes up more space, trapping more heat. As the amount of greenhouse gas rises, so does the temperature of our planet.
